When Bluecoat Display Centre invited us to be part of an exhibition featuring sgraffito decorated ceramics, we knew we had to be there.
The exhibition celebrates the centenary of the popular Liverpool artist Julia Carter Preston (1926-2012). Known for her distinctive ceramics, Julia was recognised for reviving the technique of sgraffito in the twentieth century. The technique involves scratching through a coating of clay slip on a surface to reveal an underlying layer, creating contrasting decoration.
The exhibition will show how thirteen contemporary ceramicists use the sgraffito technique in their work, alonside Carter Preston’s.

On September 19th and 20th we will back at The Makers Market, part of the Abergavenny Food Festival. To this event we will bring mostly plain glazed tableware. Our evolving range of glazes will be shown on plates and bowls, as well as teapots and – our best sellers – cups. We will also have an assortment of reduced price pots available.
